Gay Fiction

Duncan More was born in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania nine months and four days after his father returned home from military service. A Scorpio by birth, he claims he was the result of an extremely amorous Valentine’s Day celebration. Upon graduation, he entered Bloomsburg (PA) University and received degrees in English Education and theatre.

Using his education degree, he has taught high school and college classes in Pennsylvania, Maryland, North Carolina, and Georgia. Having summers off, he has vacationed in 46 states to date, only missing the Pacific Northwest and Mississippi. One summer vacation, he had his feet in the Atlantic on Monday and in the Pacific the following Friday, seeing eleven states in between while never leaving the ground. The return to the East Coast took two months longer as he stopped to meet people and see typical tourist spots. This knowledge of the American landscape and people bore fruit in his fiction.

His theatrical experience, from directing and acting to back stage positions also influences his writing. Active with the Bloomsburg Players, Little Theatre of Wilkes-Barre, Showcase Theatre of Wilkes-Barre, Scranton

Public Theatre, Wyoming Valley Youth Theatre, Little Greene Players, More is a member of Alpha Psi Omega, the national dramatics fraternity.

Between teaching and acting, More owned and operated Vaudevilla, an extremely gay-friendly bar and disco lounge in Kingston, PA for eighteen years at the urging of the man he loved. Sadly, the business lasted much longer than the love affair, but that never diminished More’s positive romantic view of life. At least two people end up committed to each other in almost all of his books.

This first-hand knowledge of people and places has enabled More to create realistic three-dimensional characters and plausible scenarios. “All the experiences I have had and the people I have met,” More affirmed, “they need to be memorialized. I think my writing does that for the enjoyment of the reading public. All my characters are based on real people…sort of.”

The eleven novels he has published include Scoring Big, Nevada Pines, Lucky Strokes, A Gift from Poseidon, The Epiphany of Hunter Dixon, Life Among the Nasties, Wheels of Fortune, The Other House on Elm Street, Invitation to a Murder, Winchester’s Men, and The Pariah. He also has two short story collections: Rainbow Shorts, and Secrets of Eros.

Four of his longer short stories have also been issued as e-books: The Key West Kid, The Legend of Kwami and Kitru, Boat Run, and Crawfish, Baby!!
